WASHINGTON — Retail chain Big Lots is recalling thousands of fire pit tables with an incorrectly installed burner kit hose that can melt and ignite, posing a fire hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the recall involves about 10,900 of Sunjoy Inds.’ Oakmont LP fire pit tables sold in the U.S.

Sunjoy has received 17 reports of fire pit tables with incorrectly installed hose having problems, with 12 of those fire pit tables having ignited resulting in four reports of minor property damage and one report of a burn injury to a user’s hand.

The CPSC has recommended that consumers immediately stop using the recalled units and contact Sunjoy to receive a free replacement burner kit and installation instructions. Consumers can contact Sunjoy about the recall (866) 578-0101 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST, Monday through Friday, and online at this link. The recall’s reference number is 21-027.

This recall involves only Sunjoy’s Oakmont LP fire pit tables, a square, natural tile fire pit table that measures 38 inches wide, 38 inches deep and 25.6 inches high. It has a powder-coated steel frame with an all-weather wicker base that conceals a 20-pound liquid propane tank. It is operated with a push button ignition and has an adjustable flame and included steel burner cover. It was sold in Big Lots stores nationwide and online from January 2020 through June 2020 for about $480.

This recall involves Sunjoy’s Oakmont LP fire pit tables. The natural tile, square fire pit tables measure about 38 inches wide, 38 inches deep and 25.6 inches high. They have a powder-coated steel frame with an all-weather wicker base that conceals a 20 lb. liquid propane (LP) tank. The tables operate with push button ignition and have an adjustable flame with a steel burner cover included.

Consumers should immediately stop using the fire pit tables and contact Sunjoy to receive a free replacement burner kit and installation instructions.
